The Good Lab

After months of preparation and dozens of long nights getting myself organized, I am happy to announce the launch of my new web development company, The Good Lab.

Becoming self-employed and “doing it on my own” has been a goal for as long as I can remember. I am thrilled, nervous, anxious and ready to get the company off the ground.  I have always been someone who appreciates putting in the needed work before jumping into anything new, but at the same time, I understand the importance of taking risk and pushing yourself into new frontiers.  Quitting my great job at Billups Design, to start The Good Lab, was an extremely hard decision, but after lots of thought I decided that the opportunity was never going to be any better. In order to be fulfilled personally and professionally I need to be self-sufficient and I need to take 100% accountability for the things I build and the products I launch.

The last paragraph might have given the impression that I have not been preparing for this move, or that it is something I am taking rather lightly, assuming I’ll figure it out along the way.  That could not be farther from the truth.  In actuality I have been planning for this jump since graduating college, and for the past two and a half years I have been juggling two careers.  One being my normal 9-5 job, and the other being my personal efforts at trying to expand my horizons as a web developer.  Between these two work schedules, I have been working nearly 80 hour weeks, with nearly all my free time being used to help prepare me for self-employment.

The Good Lab was created to embody many qualities I appreciate from the realm of the web, but also qualities that I appreciate in living a good and balanced life.  The Good in The Good Lab, does not immediately stem from the type of work we produce, but rather, from Good - meaning righteous (in a non-religious sense).  First and foremost, we create projects that enhance peoples experiences on the web.  We help companies build sites that their users and clients find useful, and we build with the intention of helping the progression of the internet.  We use technologies that are open, embrace standards, and use a methodology that facilitates a holistic build process, where the design and strategy of a site begins with its initial idea conception and ends with the successful launch of production code.  We work with small business, start-ups, and other niche organizations to build awesome web sites, products and applications.

I’ve always believed that being organized, taking things in stride, and having solid fundamentals is the key to success. In the coming months I will be laying the groundwork for The Good Lab, and searching for projects that embody the spirit of our work.  As always, we are always looking to collaborate on new projects.  If you are in need of our services or just want to chat, please get in touch.

Good things!

Thank You!
